About Our Team at Albemarle ENT Asthma & Allergy Associates





Our independent practice has served Elizabeth City and the Outer Banks region for more than 20 years. Dr. Donohoe and Ms. Alison Neal work together to deliver exemplary allergy and immunology care to adult and pediatric patients and we are accepting new patients. We are grateful to be voted multiple years running as “The Best of the Albemarle."

Dr. Margaret R. Donohoe, MD, FAAAAI

Dr. Donohoe is board certified in Allergy and Clinical Immunology as well as Internal Medicine. She graduated from Temple University Medical School with honors and completed an Internal Medicine residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, then served as Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine there. She studied as a Clinical and Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and she completed her Allergy and Clinical Immunology training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. She practiced Allergy and Internal Medicine for 6 years in Maryland before moving to Elizabeth City with her family in 1998. She has practiced in Elizabeth City and the Outer Banks since then. She resides in Elizabeth City and enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.


Dr. Donohoe practices general Allergy and Clinical Immunology. She has special interests in pediatric asthma, biologic therapies for asthma and eczema as well as treating venom hypersensitivity and eosinophilic diseases. 


Dr. Donohoe is dedicated to this community and is an advocate for children with allergies and asthma. She was a founding member and chair of the Albemarle of Albemarle Pediatric Asthma Coalition for many years. She served on the Albemarle Hospital Authority Board of Commissioners and is the current chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Albemarle Hospital Foundation Community Care Clinic. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and a Member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and NC Allergy and Asthma Society. 


Dr. Donohoe is a passionate aviator. She is a licensed instrument-rated private pilot and ground instructor and enjoys combining her love of flying with medical service. She has done medical mission work in multiple countries and serves as the medical director of Orphan Medical Network International an organization that provides components for sustainability and hope in the lives of vulnerable children and their communities in Zambia, Africa.

Alexis Griffin, MHA, RHIA - Practice Manager

Mrs. Alexis Griffin joined Dr. Donohoe’s team in April of 2022 after receiving her bachelor’s degrees in Health Services Management and Health Information Management from East Carolina University. Alexis graduated with the honorary distinction, Cum Laude, and has recently graduated with her Master in Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina.


Alexis was very involved in her time at East Carolina University acting as the Vice President of SHIIMA and sitting on the board for the NCHIIMA student committee. Alexis spent most of her education working full-time in healthcare and is dedicated to ensuring excellent patient care. Alexis contributes to the practice by handling the daily operations and devoting her time to the patients and staff.


Alexis enjoys spending her time at the beach or with her family and often commits her free time to helping within the community. Alexis is looking forward to an outstanding career with Albemarle Asthma & Allergy Associates and feels honored to be working with such an amazing, independent, healthcare practice.
